Cider Australia is the peak body for the cider and perry industries in Australia.
A national celebration of cider made from Australian grown apples and pears will be held across the country this Saturday 11 March 2023.
Australian Cider Day is an annual event that draws attention to Cider Australia’s 100% Australian Grown trust mark – an industry-led and owned initiative launched in 2018 to boost understanding about product origin.
Cider producers mark this annual day by organising cider events, tastings and other fun activities to educate drinkers about quality Australian cider.
Cider Australia President Warwick Billings said the trust mark and Australian Cider Day highlight what makes Australian craft ciders unique – the fact they are made with Australian grown fruit rather than imported juice concentrate which goes into an estimated 90% of the ciders sold in Australia.
‘By choosing ciders that display the trust mark, drinkers are supporting Australian fruit growers and their communities and boosting Australian jobs in the craft cider industry’, Warwick said.
More than 80 Australian cider producers are now registered to use the trust mark.
Cider Australia features Australian Cider Day events on its website and promotes use of the social media hashtag #drinkaustraliancider so everyone can see what the Australian cider community is up to.

About the trust mark and Australian Cider Day
Cider Australia’s 100% Australian Grown trust mark is an industry-led initiative to reinforce the premium quality of Australian craft cider and drive integrity in the market. The trust mark can only be displayed on ciders made from 100% Australian grown ingredients. The trust mark was developed with the support of the Australian Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package, and levy funds from the Australian Apple Marketing Levy managed by Hort Innovation.
Cider Australia has established an Australian Cider Day to fall on the second Saturday of March each year. The purpose of day is to raise awareness of the 100% Australian Grown trust mark and create an occasion to educate drinkers and celebrate Australian Cider.
Australian Cider Day on Saturday 13th March is the perfect opportunity to seek out and celebrate Australian craft ciders.
Industry body Cider Australia established this annual event to highlight product origin and help consumers learn more about authentic Australian cider.
Cider Australia President Warwick Billings said the events of the past year have focused the minds of consumers on authenticity and products made by locals with ingredients they understand and trust.
“Cider made with 100% Australian grown fruit continues to outperform the rest of the category”, said Warwick.
“Cider Australia launched its 100% Australian Grown trust mark to help consumers identify and buy local products, and it is now displayed on hundreds of ciders across Australia helping them to buy local”, Warwick said.
“With the apple harvest upon us and cider makers beginning to press and ferment thousands of bins of fruit across Australia, Australian Cider Day is the perfect opportunity to salute 100% Australian craft cider”.
Cider producers will mark this day by organising cider events, tastings and other fun festivities with events published on Cider Australia’s website as they are announced.
Everyone is encouraged to share news and photos about Australian Cider Day events with the hashtag #drinkaustraliancider to ensure the country’s cider cheer is spread far and wide.

More than a decade of dedication towards promoting pure Australian cider will be celebrated with the launch of Australian Cider Day on March 14.
Hundreds of incredible ciders made across the country from 100 per cent Australian-grown fruit will be highlighted in a bid to further boost understanding about product origin.
The new annual event comes soon after Cider Australia rolled out its ‘100% Australian Grown trust mark’, helping drinkers understand where the fruit in their cider comes from.
Cider Australia President Sam Reid said the combination of a National Day and the new trust mark would further advance local product recognition in a market still saturated by cheap foreign imports.
“Over the last decade there has been huge growth in Australian cider production but unfortunately less than 10 per cent of cider consumed in Australia is made from Australian grown fruit,” Mr Reid said.
“That’s really disappointing for local producers who are working extremely hard to promote the benefits of supporting locally grown fruit and locally made cider.
“As an industry we’ve been lobbying the government for years to change the labelling laws so people know where the apples in their cider come from. Wine producers must be honest about regionality, but unfortunately we have had no success for cider at this stage”, said Mr Reid.
“As a committed collective, Australian cider producers are taking action into their own hands and are rolling out the new trust mark on their products. The mark is now on a significant amount of packaging so we think it’s time to make it mean something for drinkers across Australia.”
Enter Australian Cider Day on March 14. It will promote and generate publicity about the 100% Australian Grown trust mark and also educate drinkers about quality Australian cider.
